Our Staff - Joseph P. Welch

Joe has over 25 years insurance industry experience, primarily with John Hancock Financial Services in property and casualty, accident and health and life insurance operations and program management. Joe has strategically managed large teams accounting, claims, administration and legal resources responsible to run off high risk portfolios of Accident & Health reinsurance during a period of intense industry wide litigation. Joe represented the company as a testifying witness and executive representative in multiple dispute resolution matters. He has experience meeting with regulators nationwide to provide briefings and respond to queries. Joe has advised senior leadership on high risk matters and settlement opportunities that ultimately led to pre-trial settlement in over 100 cases and has negotiated multiple large settlements that effectively mitigated losses and recovered assets which led to significant gains for the company. Joe also addressed a complex organizational gap by establishing a Program Management Office that required rallying Legal, Compliance, IT and Operations teams around diverse projects to determine common global delivery objectives, assess operational needs, implement project plans and achieve results. Most recently, Joe established and led a legal operations function at Iron Mountain that established business activities and processes that supported the in-house legal team’s ability to protect and grow the company. Joe is a graduate of Northeastern University with a degree in Business Administration.
